How can we reduce waste while eating out?

Hey Everyone!
A few months ago, I decided to switch to a sustainable diet. I wanted to eat healthier, reduce waste, and do my part for the planet. But honestly, it hasn’t been as easy as I thought it would be.
First, I realized how expensive some sustainable options are. Organic vegetables, plant-based alternatives, and eco-friendly packaged products cost more than my usual groceries. On a tight budget, I had to make tough choices and couldn’t always stick to my plan.
Then there’s the availability issue. I live in a small town, and not every store stocks local produce or sustainable products. Sometimes, I’ve had to drive far just to find what I need, which feels counterproductive when trying to lower my carbon footprint. Changing habits has been another big hurdle. I grew up eating a lot of meat, and while I’ve tried to cut back, I still crave it often. Learning to cook plant-based meals has been fun but also overwhelming—some recipes feel too complicated for a busy weeknight.
Lastly, convincing my family has been tricky. They’re used to their favorites, and I’ve heard, “Why are you making us eat this?” more times than I can count. It’s hard to make this change alone when the people around you aren’t fully on board.
Despite all this, I’ve stuck with it because I believe it’s worth it. I’ve learned to make small, manageable changes, like buying seasonal vegetables, reducing waste by using leftovers creatively, and slowly introducing new recipes to my family.
But I know I still have a long way to go. That’s why I’d love to hear from others:
Let’s share our experiences and help each other find better ways to adopt a sustainable diet!
