When making big purchases such as housing, furniture, or even appliances… the question arises:
"Rent or buy?"
From an environmental perspective, the response isn't always straightforward.
Is it better to rent or buy? That varies based on how frequently you use it, how long you'll need it, and the environmental impact it has.
Purchasing may provide long-term ownership, but it usually creates overconsumption.
Sharing or renting goods that you don't use on a daily basis can reduce waste, save cash, and reduce your footprint.
Consider clothing rentals rather than fast fashion. Consider furniture rentals for short-term configurations. Even tools and electronics can be rented rather than owned.
So is it smarter to buy or rent?
Let's reimagine what it means to own in a sustainable world.
