Every trip to my hometown feels like pressing pause. During each visit, I head to our coconut farm the muddy paths, the breeze, the tall trees and of course, the tender coconuts waiting to be sipped.

Every time, I’d struggle to drink them without a straw, but it was always part of the fun.

But on one visit, my grandfather offered me more than just coconut water. He offered me a lesson in simplicity.

He plucked a fresh papaya leaf from a newly grown tree, trimmed both ends, and handed it to me. The stem hollow by design became the perfect straw.

I took a sip… and it worked. Smooth, natural, effortless.

It came from a papaya tree.

That’s when it hit me, while we’re busy inventing eco-friendly products in factories to replace single use plastics, nature had already done the job. Quietly. Beautifully.

While we search high and low for sustainable solutions, nature has already designed most of them. We just have to notice.

If you ever get the chance, try it. You might be surprised at what nature can teach you too.
